The combined resources of our group allows us to have many dogs certified in many areas.
Many dogs are cross trained in patrol and scent detection (dual purpose dogs), however some are specialists in their particular area (single purpose).
Training topics include:
Area search - When suspects flee from a crime scene, several K9’s are used, in a coordinated effort to search an area of containment for outstanding suspects.
Building search - Where suspects are believed to be inside a building, for example a burglary in progress call.
Evidence / Article search - K9's can be used to search an open area for a dropped article, usually a piece of evidence.
Explosives detection - Bomb dogs are used to detect a number of explosives. Some dogs are trained on over twenty different odors.
Handler protection - K9's can be trained to recognize when their handler is in trouble and can take action to prevent the handler from being harmed.
Narcotics detection - Detector dogs are trained to find Marijuana, Methamphetamine, Cocaine, Heroin, and MDMA (Ecstasy)
Suspect apprehension - Suspect's who are running from a crime scene can be apprehended by the dog. Most dogs are trained to detain the suspect unless the suspect shows non-compliant behavior.
